Objectives

STAFFING 

Head of Unit (1): provide strategic direction and oversee all operations of NOC.

A. Network Infrastructure Management

  1. Network Administrator (1): Designs, implements, and maintains the overall network architecture. Develops long-term plans for network expansion and upgrades. Ensures interoperability of all network systems. Collaborates with other sub-units of NOC.
  2.  Senior Network Engineers (2): Responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of specific network segments (e.g., fiber optics, LAN, wireless). Troubleshoots complex network issues. Provides technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers.
  3.  Network Engineers (2): Implement and maintain network infrastructure according to designs. Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Monitor network performance. Assist Senior Network Engineers.
  4.  Network Technicians (4): Install and maintain physical network infrastructure (cabling, equipment). Perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance. Assist engineers with larger projects.

B. Network Security & Monitoring

  1. Network Security Engineer (1): Develops and implements network security policies and procedures. Manages firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and other security tools. Conducts security audits and vulnerability assessments. Responds to security incidents.
  2.  Network Security Analyst (1): Monitors network traffic for suspicious activity and security breaches. Analyzes security logs and reports. Collaborates with Security Engineer on incident response.
  3.  Network Monitoring Specialist (1): Monitors network performance using NMS. Sets up and configures monitoring tools. Analyzes monitoring data and creates reports. Responds to alerts, performs initial troubleshooting.

C. Server & Data Management

 System Administrator (2): Manage and maintain servers, including operating systems, applications, and databases. Perform regular maintenance tasks (updates, backups). Ensure server security. Implement and monitor access control policies. Resolve server-related incidents.

  1. Database Administrator (1): Manage and maintain databases, ensuring data integrity and availability. Perform regular backups and implement recovery procedures. Optimize database performance.
  2.  Data Center Technician (1): Responsible for the physical maintenance of the server room, including power and cooling systems. Monitors environmental conditions and responds to alerts.

D. Help Desk & Support

  1.  Help Desk Manager (1): Oversees Help Desk operations, ensuring SOP compliance and efficient handling of all network-related queries and issues. Manages staff, develops training programs, and creates reports.
  2. Help Desk Analysts (2): Provide first-level support to end-users, troubleshooting common issues, and escalating complex issues to second-level support. Create and manage tickets within the IT service management (ITSM) system.
  3.  Second-Level Support (2): Provide in-depth troubleshooting and technical support for complex network issues. Collaborate with other IT units as needed.

E. Power and Cooling Administration

  1. Power & Cooling Engineer (1): Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining power and cooling systems within the NOC and other distributions across the campus. Develops and implements preventative maintenance plans. Responds to power and cooling system alerts and performs troubleshooting. Monitors environmental conditions.
  2. Power & Cooling Technician (1): Performs routine maintenance on power and cooling equipment. Assists the engineer with more complex tasks.
